Olaf Manthey, the most successful team manager in the VLN Langstreckenmeisterschaft Nüburgring, finished on the podium in the first race on Saturday on occasion of his guest participation in the Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup at the Nürburgring. Only ex Formula 1 star Martin Brundle successfully achieved a similar performance at the opening round at Hockenheim.

In the race over the 14 laps on the 3.629 kilometres long short connection of the traditional race circuit in the Eifel region, Manthey was only beaten by the two regular drivers Aditya Patel and Maciek Steinhof. In addition to Mathey, some further Nordschleife legends were competing in this event. Altfrid Heger finally finished into 9th place and Sabine Schmitz in position 15. Uwe Alzen was not able to compete for a podium position as he had to retire after a collision.
