After their success at the 24h Race, Patrick Brenndörfer (Frankfurt/ Germany), Frank Eickholt (Bottrop/ Germany) and Martin Müller (Griesheim/ Germany) again won their class at the 6h ADAC Ruhr-Pokal-Rennen at the Nürburgring. After 2007 and 2009, this is the third success scored by Heico Sportiv at the 6h Race.
The 6h race run over the 24.360 kilometres long combination of the Grand Prix Circuit short connection and the Nürburgring Nordschleife is considered to be the highlight of the Langstreckenmeisterschaft Nürburgring. And it turned out to be an outstanding race: The winning car, a Porsche 911 GT3 R, completed 42 race laps and a distance of 1,023.498 kilometres. Never before in the 83 years of history of the Eifel circuit did a touring car complete more than 1000 kilometres at a six hours race. Heico Sportiv covered 36 laps without any problems in their Volvo C30 powered by CropPower8, which corresponds to 877.284 kilometres and they scored the win in the class for turbo cars with the maximum of 2.6 litres cubic capacity with a clear advance.
A result which was in danger for a while during practice already. A collision in their flying lap which was not their fault impeded a quicker lap time and made it possible for the works supported Ford Focus RS of the UAS Cologne to gain pole position in class SP4T. With a fastest time of 9:28,888 minutes, the Heico Volvo finished into second class position and 72nd overall.
The race was started at twelve o’clock and 186 participants started their pace over six hours in the “Green Hell”. “That was racing pure at the limits”, describes Patrick Brenndörfer the start. “I managed to get close to the RS and to pass them finally. The fights were hard but always fair.” He changed the steering wheel to his team mate Martin Müller into first position and Martin was then even able to extend their lead.
The third driver, Fran Eickholt, too, was really enthusiastic about the race: “Our Volvo is running as reliable as always, the Pirelli tyres are constantly fast, we must only proceed to our scheduled pit stops”. The RS team lost a lot of time at mid race due to an accident so that Heico could reduce the speed a little in order to save their third class position in this 6h Race.
The chequered flag came out for the team after 6:09:10,249 minutes. With an average speed of 142,582 kph, the Volvo C30 finished into an excellent 45th place overall. Any they proved once again that the Green Racing concept is meanwhile well established in the field of strong touring and sports cars.
The next race will take place on 25th September at the Nürburgring again – with the participation of Heico Sportiv and the Volvo C30 powered by CropPower85.
