Formula 1 star Nico Hülkenberg showed himself excited after his test with a Porsche 911 GT3 R with hybrid technology on the Nordschleife. At the occasion of the 52nd ADAC ACAS H&R Cup, the third round of the VLN Langstreckenmeisterschaft Nürburgring, the 22-year old completed three laps in the “Green Hell”. His impression reflected the legend of the unique race track: “The Nordschleife is just fantastic.”
For Hülkenberg, it was not only his debut on the Nordschleife, but also his first test in a tin-top race car. “Generally, touring cars are softer than a Formula 1 car”, said Hülkenberg. “Nevertheless, I was surprised how quick one can still be, especially in slow corners. There, it is not too far away from Formula 1. One can clearly feel the hybrid boost in the Porsche and I can imagine that one can have a lot of fun with that in the race. I would like to thank Porsche for giving me the opportunity to drive this unique race car at the world’s most beautiful race track.”
Currently, Hülkenberg is in his debut season in the highest motorsport category for the Williams Formula 1 team. Nevertheless, he could also envisage competing in the VLN Langstreckenmeisterschaft. “From what I have seen so far, this is quite serious racing. Even the hobby drivers are taking the sport very seriously. Still, I believe that the fun factor is quite important, too.”
Before his test on the Nordschleife, Frank Pohl, head of marketing and sales of the Nürburgring GmbH, gave Hülkenberg an honorary ticket for the passenger car laps on the Nordschleife. “Great, I will surely use it and drive the odd lap or two for myself”, said a delighted Hülkenberg.
