After 27 exciting race laps, drivers Michael Zehe (Flörsheim-Dalsheim/Germany), Marco Schelp (Berlin/Germany) and Alexander Roloff (Berlin/Germany) of the Team ROWE Motorsport took the chequered flag last Saturday at the 35th DMV 4-Hour race into an excellent ninth overall position. The crew became was classified fifth in class SP9. 230 entries had been received for the second round of this year’s endurance racing championship. For the works teams of BMW, Audi, Porsche and Nissan, the series is considered to be an important preparation for the 24h race to take place mid May.
In front of more than 35.000 spectators, the team in the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup S took the start with start driver Michael Zehe from eleventh position on the grid. After five laps and a personal fastest lap time, Michael handed over the steering wheel to Marco Schelp who completed his turn with constantly fast lap times, too. Alexander Roloff who did the last stint was able to move up into ninth place and he was able to secure this result until the finish line. All of the three drivers were visibly happy with the result as they have shown that they can very well go the pace of the top teams.
Regrettably, the race was not as successful for the “big brother” of the ROWE team, the Porsche 911 GT3 R of Mamerow Racing. 20 minutes before the race end, the car – into second place at that moment – was involved in an unlucky collision with a lapped Audi A8 at the section „Schwalbenschwanz“, crashed into the wall and the race car was badly damaged. After the retirement of Chris Mamerow, Manthey Racing secured its race victory, followed by the Audi R8 LMS and the newly developed 911 GT3 R Hybrid.
It remains to be seen during the week of the badly damaged GT3 R of Mamerow can be repaired until the next round on 24th April.
