During the last days, Kissling Motorsport has carried out thorough tests in Spain and at the Nürburgring to be well prepared for the coming season of the VLN Langstreckenmeisterschaft Nürburgring.
Whenever you passed by the pits of Kissling Motorsport during the VLN test and set-up session, you could see happy faces all over the team. The hard work carried out during the last weeks has paid out – the Astra OPC of the Race Camp and the sister car of the Fritzsche brothers showed to be both reliable and very quick.
Beginning of March already, Kissling Motorsport travelled to Monte Blanco in Spain with the black Race Camp race cars in order to do their roll-out. Apart from some weather disturbances at the beginning, the tests near Sevilla were running very satisfactorily to that they could wait with relaxation for the set-up session on 17th of March at the Nürburgring to come.
The Eifel region, though, again showed what it is well known for and due to the continuing cold and icy sections at the Nordschleife thus upset the team’s plans. It was only on Friday before the VLN test and set-up session that the Opel race cars from Bad Münstereifel were able to complete their laps around the track.
A tough test session for the Race Camp race cars as well as for the Fritzsche Astra was carried out the following two days. Whilst the black race cars of the drivers’ screening program were amongst others in detail tested by Volker Strycek and Stefan Kissling, Heinz-Otto and Jürgen Fritzsche of course insisted on driving their Astra themselves. During winter, the Astra was updated regarding its optical and hence also aerodynamic characteristics and brought onto the level of the Race Camp cars. The Fritzsche race car now looks much larger which has a great influence on the handling as Jürgen Fritzsche explains:
“Due to the important aerodynamic modifications, our car now has much more downforce. This is in particular noticeable in the fast and twisty passages. In these sections, the Astra is much more stable around the corners and you can thus take the corners at higher speeds.”
The Kissling team has now completed all their preparations for the VLN round to take place on 27th of March – the season can start right now!
