In a little more than a month, the VLN endurance racing championship will start the 2010 season at the Nürburgring Nordschleife with the 57th ADAC Westfalenfahrt. There have hardly ever been so many interesting projects already disclosed and published before the start of the season as this year. With the comeback of MK-Motorsport, the motor sport fans may now look forward to another highlight in the Green Hell.
Since 1978, the name of “MK-Motorsport” has been standing for innovative tuning and extraordinary quality in the area of automobile engineering. With the 30 years of racing engagement of company founder Michael Krankenberg, the team has up to date not only acquired a brilliant reputation in the field of tuning but it can also look back onto an extremely successful history in motor sport. The crew from Ötigheim thus managed for example to win the group B classification in the classical long distance race, the 24h of Le Mans, in 1986 and it has also scored a DTM overall victory as a purely private team. In addition to the successful participations in the Sports Car World Championship from 1983 till 1986 as well as in the spectacular German Racing Championships of 1978/1979, the team has also successfully passed its first tests in the Green Hell in achieving a third place overall at the 24h Race Nürburgring in 1987.
The experienced team will now rejoin this popular racing series in the season 2010 and has set itself the target to compete in the top group of the highly competitive classes V4, V5 or SP5 of the VLN endurance racing championship. In order to realize this difficult task, well-known and partly successful drivers from the VLN, such as Matthias Unger, Daniel Zils, Thomas Ehleiter, Richard Klumpp or Andreas Schettler have been engaged to join the drivers’ squad. In addition, MK-Motorsport currently has further free places in the team for the coming season and is looking for additional reliable and quick drivers who are ready to cope with these big tasks and wish to complete the team.
