Victor Smolski will take part in the 2010 season of the VLN endurance racing championship Nürburgring with a spectacular Ginetta G50 race car entered by the Team Boes-Motorsport. The popular musician, who could recently be found in the German charts of top albums with his band Range and the album ‘Strings To A Web’, nevertheless still has to complete a tough programme of concerts in Germany, Russia, Japan and South America before the season finally starts on 27th of March with the first round at the Nordschleife.
„My personal diary is very well co-ordinated with our management”, says Smolski. “I will thus be able to take part in all the races of the endurance racing championship.” Yet, the spectacular Ginetta, which will compete in class GT4, is totally new for him who was born in Russia and has been living in Germany since 1993. “I have not completed one single meter in the car”, he admits. “I am however very confident that my team will present to me a perfectly prepared race car for the first round. I have driven an Aston Martin at Silverstone which is supposed to be similar to the Ginetta regarding handling: hard and stubborn.”
The GT4 racer is in particular outstanding with regard to its performance of more than 300 HP and to the low weight of 1.000 kilograms in the GT4 specification. “We will have very good chances with our Ginetta in competing against the Aston Martin, BMW and the others in class GT4” informs team manager Horst Boes. “If everything is running smoothly, I see our team amongst the top ten.” On occasion of a presentation at Silverstone, the team was able to get convinced by the long-life cycle of the British super race car. “More than one dozen of test drivers raced the car on the circuit that day. Most of them did not take too much regard to treat it with care. The Ginetta did nevertheless not have any problem at all during the whole day. We are hence confident that we can start the season with a minimum of teething troubles.”
The rock musician Smolski is looking forward to meet the challenge. “I have talked to a lot of teams and I had concrete proposals to drive a BMW or a Porsche. My decision to drive the Ginetta, however, was quickly taken because the car is not only outstanding regarding its appearance but it is also very quick. I am really anxious to see what we can achieve.”
