The 2010 season is approaching fast. As many others, Auto Weiland from Frankfurt, and namely Matthias Weiland and his father Harald, is currently planning its participations in the VLN endurance racing championship Nürburgring and in the 24 Hour Race. “We will in any case enter two race cars in the Porsche Cup class”, informed the team manager now. Any the team is driven by great ambitions. “First of all, we have to see how the other teams are positioned”, is the rather careful attitude of Harald Weiland, “but I think that we are powerful and competitive enough to fight for class victories again.”
One of the Porsche 997 GT3 Cup will be driven by son Matthias. As Uwe Alzen has changed into the BMW team, one of the biggest and most competitive rivals of the experienced race driver Matthias has disappeared. “It will nevertheless not be easy to be competitive in the top group”, admits Matthias Weiland. The man from Frankfurt is however optimistic to be amongst the candidates for a position on the podium as he was in 2009. Last season, Matthias Weiland was after all able to score two class wins and four positions on the podium. In addition, the second Porsche finished two races amongst the top three. www.autoweiland.de could thus finish eight races out of ten in the top three.
It is however not yet finally decided who will join regular driver Matthias for the ten championship races this year. “I would really like to continue with my last year’s team mate but this is not yet finalized.” The drivers for the second Porsche, too, remain to be nominated. “We have a lot of requests and must now take a decision on the best configuration”, explains Harald Weiland the current situation. The team manager would like to have reliable and quick drivers in his team. The composition of the crews is supposed to be communicated within the next two weeks.
By the way: The entrant of the team for the VLN races and for the 24 Hour Race will be “Scuderia Offenbach” and they thus continue to remain loyal to their home team.
