The Wochenspiegel Team Manthey (WTM-Racing) finished the BFGoodrich Langstreckenmeisterschaft 2009 with a strong performance. At the last race of the year on the Nürburgring, the 34th DMV Münsterlandpokal race, the Wochenspiegel-Porsche with drivers Georg Weiss, Michael Jacobs and Peter-Paul Pietsch finished eighth overall and third in their class. “This was a good season final. We can be more than happy with a place in the top ten considering the strong competitors.”
Even the weather was kind to the competitors at the last race of the year. Although it was cold in the Eifel region, it was dry and in the afternoon the sun even broke through the clouds. The Wochenspiegel-Porsche 997 GT3 finished the practice into 14th place. Peter-Paul Pietsch had set the fastest lap time with 8:31.976 minutes. “A good lap, but not perfect, the conditions were very good today.” Michael Jacobs, too, was very quick in practice but had to abandon his fast lap due to the accident of another Porsche in the area Pflanzgarten. “I would otherwise have achieved a time of below 8:30 minutes.” Georg Weiss was happy with his performance. “The fact that we are on 14th grid position only despite our excellent time demonstrates the extraordinary high quality of the field.”
Peter-Paul Pietsch was the start driver and quite quickly moved up into tenth position in the Wochenspiegel-Porsche. Georg Weiss was able to defend this position in his turn with constant quick lap times. Final driver Michael Jacobs improved by another two places at the beginning of his stint and finished safely into eighth position. Georg Weiss: „This position today was probably the best we could achieve. All the teams ahead of us are professional teams, except one. And we managed to finish in the same lap as the winner.”
Georg Weiss: ”This was a difficult season 2009. We really needed some words of comfort in between to get over the many failures. All the better it is that we have now come back to our old strength at the end of the season. I am looking forward to next year.”
Michael Jacobs: “I had no problems to defend my position at the end. The gap to the competitors ahead of me unfortunately was too big. The car was fine and I could set constant fast lap times.”
Peter-Paul Pietsch: “That was great fun. The conditions were good and the Porsche was running perfectly. I was able to catch up during my start turn and then keep the place in the top ten. It is a pity that we did not have some more similar successful races during the year.”
