In the season final, which could hardly have been more exciting, Frank Totz and Peter Kreuer secured their victory in the tv14 Honda Civic Cup, followed by Christoph Dupré/Jürgen Nett and the VLN Honda Junior Team of Dennis Nägele/Kristian Nägele/Tim Scheerbarth.
Totz/Kreuer achieved the last pole position in this year’s Cup with a new record time of 9:52.466 minutes, two seconds ahead of the juniors and almost four seconds in front of Dupré/Nett. Kreuer took benefit of his first grid position and moved away by 15 seconds before the first pit stop.
Totz/Kreuer lost this small advance at their pit stop and the junior team went into the lead, followed by Dupré/Nett. After the second refuel stop, all of the three teams left the pit lane bumper-to-bumper, with Dupré/Nett in the lead and pulling away a little. Frank Totz and junior Tim Scheerbarth had a close battle throughout their complete turn. Totz: “That was really great fun and we both were driving to our limits, but always fair.”
After the third stop, Dupré/Nett started with a six seconds advance, but final driver Kreuer closed up quickly, was able to go into the lead and even to pull away a little with a series of fast lap times. Peter Kreuer: “I was pushing extremely hard in each and every lap.” After four hours race time, Totz/Kreuer won the season final and thus also the classification in the tv14 Honda Civic Cup 2009. Dupré/Nett finished the race and the final Cup classification into second place, just ahead of the Junior Team Nägele/ Nägele/ Scheerbarth who set a new fastest race lap time with 9:49.008 minutes.
Position four in the race and in the final classification was won by the TRW ladies team Schmid/ Wassertheurer/ Müllenmeister who, same as Totz/Kreuer, were classified in all of the races in the 2009 season. In five out of the ten endurance racing championship rounds 2009 at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, all of the Honda Civic which started took the chequered flag and thus demonstrated the extraordinary reliability of their cars.
This last race of the 2009 BFGoodrich Langstreckenmeisterschaft Nürburgring season did not bring big changes in the championship lead of the Honda Sport Pokal. With a second place in the competitive class SP3, Fugel/Pflanz moved up into fourth championship position. Hoppe/Utsch in the Fleper-SP3-Civic finished sixth, one place ahead of Platz/Hörter/Kaufmann in the Cardiff-S2000. The winners in the Honda Sport Pokal, though, are Claus Dupré and Achim Nett. Second position gained the S2000 of Geulen/Kurato/Schmersal, followed by the Mathol team Weber/Bermes into third position.
