Motor sport people fighting against leukaemia

The team Diekriede-Motorsport, the Motor Sport Club Münster and the endurance racing championship organiser VLN, with the support of additional teams of the BFGoodrich Langstreckenmeisterschaft Nürburgring, are very involved in trying to help leukaemia patients. In cooperation with the DKMS Deutsche Knochenmarkspenderdatei (German Bone Marrow Donor Center), the motor sport people organise an activity for the typing and registration of donors to take place on 31st of October during the 34th DMV Münsterlandpokal race. Everybody can help and have himself/herself registered as a possible donor of stem cells or donate money to help financing the typing activities.

Patron is DMAX moderator Tim Schrick who supports the activity with his complete team Schrick. He invites public and racing teams to participate in the activity: “Motor sport is team work. And team work is also essential to help leukaemia patients. The patients will only have a chance if as many persons as possible have themselves registered!”

Every 45 minutes someone is diagnosed with leukaemia in Germany. This includes many children and adolescents. Stem cell transplantation is the only chance of a cure for many of these people. For a successful transplantation, the tissue characteristics of the stem cell donator must almost completely match with those of the patient. The probability for a patient with a common combination of the tissue characteristics may find a matching donator amongst 20.000 people, whereas in the case of a very rare combination, it may occur that nobody amongst several millions of people matches. Although the DKMS has developed the worldwide biggest data bank in which almost 1.9 millions people are registered as possible stem cell donators, one patient in five still waits in vain for a donator. This is why the team Diekriede-Motorsport, the Motor Sport Club Münster and the endurance racing championship organiser VLN appeal to the motor sport people in the BFGoodrich Langstreckenmeisterschaft Nürburgring and to the fans to help and give their support. Everybody who has himself/herself registered represents another chance for the patients worldwide and may save a live perhaps already tomorrow. The typing will take place in the old Drivers’ Info in the Race Control Tower on 31st October between 10:00 a.m. and 04:00 p.m. Additional information is available in the internet under www.dkms.de and in the current edition of the VLN Racing News on-site.
