Only two weeks after their first success, the Honda VLN Junior Team, entered by FH Köln Motorsport, achieved their second victory in the tv14 Honda Civic Cup. They thus increased their chances to win the title, but Frank Totz/Peter Kreuer, leading the classification with an advance of one point, and Christoph Dupré/ Jürgen Nett, too, still have best chances.
In practice already, the juniors Dennis and Kristian Nägele together with Tim Scheerbarth showed an excellent performance under slippery track conditions and set fastest lap time with almost 10 seconds ahead of Totz/Kreuer. The TRW ladies crew with Daniela Schmid/ Anja Wassertheurer/ Nicole Müllenmeister achieved a fantastic third grid position, ahead of Dupré/Nett who started a little too cautiously so that they had to take the start from fourth position on the grid.
Shortly after the start of the four hour race the track dried off. Whilst Dupré/Nett and the team of the Cologne University of Applied Science changed to slick tyres already after two laps, Totz/Kreuer continued in rain tyres until their first regular pit stop and could thus set a little distance to their competitors.
But then Totz/Kreuer lost more than 40 seconds due to a lack of fuel and Dupré/Nett, too, were surprised by the high fuel consumption due to the cool autumn temperatures. Nägele/ Nägele/ Scheerbarth went into the lead with their excellent race strategy and the quick pit stops. Dupré/ Nett set fantastic fast lap times and also achieved the fastest lap of the race with 9:52.390 minutes. The loss of time, however, had been too big and they finished the race into third position with a gap of 24 seconds. Dramatic moments in the lead: Totz/Kreuer were catching up lap by lap, the final driver of the junior team, Kristian Nägele, was fighting very hard to defend his position. Peter Kreuer risked everything in the last turn, the Hohenrain chicane, to get past, but he failed. With a badly damaged rear axle and a gap of four seconds behind, he nevertheless managed to secure second place and remains in the championship lead. All of the three leading teams still have the chance to win the championship in the tv14 Honda Civic Cup at the final to take place on 31st of October. Once again, all of the Honda Civic race cars finished this championship race.
Honda Sport Pokal: Bermes/Weber with a superior victory in the Mathol-S2000
Fastest time in practice, fastest lap and victory in class SP3 – the Honda S2000 of Norbert Bermes/ Wolfgang Weber dominated the race which took place under difficult conditions and thus moved up into third position of the Honda Sport Pokal.
Into the lead, however, moved Claus Dupré/ Achim Nett (father and brother of the successful Civic-Cup crew) with their Honda Accord, they achieved fifth place in class V4 of series production cars. Marcel Hoppe/Mike Utsch finished fourth in class SP3 with their green Fleper-Civic.
