The team Black Flacon gained plenty of cups at the eighth round of the BFGoodrich Langstreckenmeisterschaft at the Nürburgring. All of the cars entered by the current Champion team finished on the podium. With two championship races now to run before the end of the season, the racing team which is based in Kelberg can now be quite optimistic to gain the title again.
The drivers of the team Black Flacon were much asked for at the prizegiving ceremony which took for the first time place at the ‘Eifel Stadl’ in the new Eifel village. Two class wins and one group victory as well as three further places on the podium – the weekend turned out to be very successful for the ‘falcons”.
The drivers Andrew Baughan, Maik Rosenberg and Ralf Willems received their first cup in the current season for the front runner, the BMW M3 E92 V8 in class SP7, despite an accident in the last lap. In particular Baughan, who took the chequered flag with the damaged front of the M3, was accordingly happy. Father and son Breslin as well as Vimal Metha, too, were for the first time in the season shown into third position in class SP6 after the four hours race distance.
Sean-Paul Breslin, however, extended his lead in the overall championship classification due to his successful performance in the V4-BMW E90. Breslin who was supported by Alex Böhm and Christer Jöns was not only able to achieve a class win again in the V4, he also made an important step forwards to win the championship. Two races now remain for the competitors to prevent Böhm and the team Black Falcon to win the title and Breslin and Jöns to win their first championship.
“With this class win again, I am of course getting closer and closer to my target to defend the championship title”, informs Böhm. “But we will not be the champions before we have indeed won the title. We have really very strong drivers in the E90-BMW and the team is really working very efficiently. So all the preconditions to win the championship again exist but we still have to win another race which is not really easy in the endurance racing championship, as everybody knows.”
Jöns, too, will be able to defend a title in 2009. The current JuniorTrophy champion would like to receive this cup again on 31st of October and the chances are really good. “The season is running perfectly”, said Jöns. “The mechanics at the pits are doing a job as great as the drivers. This applies not only for the long distance race but also for the Seat Leon Supercopa where the championship is within reach, too.”
Another place on the podium in class V4 achieved the E90 crew with Andrij Lebed and Kai Riebetz who are getting stronger and stronger. With a gap of only nine hundredth of a second, the duo improved from place four into third position and thus finished on the winners’ podium. The team of Bona Ventura, Daniel Schwerfeld and Frank Bierther achieved their sixth successive victory in class V6 up to 3.500cc. The V6 team has now been unbeaten since half a year – quite a few points could thus be collected at the Falken headquarters in Kelberg.
