After seven rounds, Rolf Derscheid and Michael Flehmer are shown in the championship lead. With five class wins in the class of VLN Specials up to 1.800 cc cubic capacity (V2) and two second places, the team has currently an advance of 0.2 points ahead of Alexander Böhm, Christer Jöns and Sean Paul Breslin in the Black-Falcon-BMW. The trio has gained six victories in the class of VLN production cars up to 2.500 cc cubic capacity (V4) but scored quite a bad result at the third round when finishing fourth and thus loosing valuable points. All the results are currently still counted for the classification.
This will change after the eighth round, when the first of two results which will not be taken into consideration for the final classification becomes due. Black Flacon will then have good chances to defend their title in this most popular endurance racing series of Europe, provided that they will be able to score additional class victories. The reason: With the average of 12.71 cars, class V4 had more competitors than class V2 with 11.43 cars on the average. With each victory Black Flacon was thus able to score more points than Derscheid/Flehmer. Marcel Tiemann (Monaco) in the Manthey-Porsche also managed to gain six class wins but he is currently found into 17th championship place only after a retirement in the fifth race. If you considered already now one race which will not be counted in the final championship classification, he would be found into second place behind Black Falcon. However, Tiemann achieved the victories in the class of VLN Specials up to 4.000 cc cylinder capacity with 8.71 cars – so it is quite unlikely that he will be able to gain the title.
