Mike Schmit and team mate Daniel Parravano used the seventh round of the BFGoodrich Langstreckenmeisterschaft to come back racing in fine weather at the ‘green hell’ after having been away for a while.
After the first laps on Friday already, it became obvious that the various modifications carried out on the car before the race had paid out. Mike Schmit was more than satisfied. “I am very happy that the car is working that well, everything is running as scheduled so far”, he said happily after having completed the first laps for the team around the blue Suzuki Swift as a test at the beginning of the race weekend.
On Saturday, too, when they started the early practice session together with the many other competitors, everything was running perfectly. They achieved 172nd grid position amongst the 192 participants.
In the race, Mike Schmit and Daniel Parravano were then able to show the constancy which is an extremely important factor in endurance racing and thus moved up continuously. Whilst some participants from amongst the leading group encountered problems during the four hour race, the small Suzuki Swift managed the long and difficult combination of the legendary Nordschleife and the Nürburgring sprint circuit without any problems.
After the four hours race distance, they finally achieved a victory in class SP1 and position 112 in the overall classification, a result about which Schmit and Parravano were very happy. “It had always been a dream for me to score a class win with my own team and today this dream has become true. That is why I am so happy, everything was running so well. In addition, for reasons of organisation, the last round of the Luxembourgian Racing Championship in which my team mate Daniel takes part with the Suzuki Swift was integrated in this round of the BFGoodrich Langstreckenmeisterschaft. Due to the good result, Daniel now has become Vice Champion in the Luxembourgian Championship – and this in a Suzuki Swift! The whole weekend really was a dream”, said Mike Schmit happily.
A small break is now lying ahead of the endurance racing championship before the last third of the season begins on 3rd of October.
