Just before the next round of the BFGoodrich Langstreckenmeisterschaft at the Nürburgring, Renault MotorSport participated with the New Renault Cup Clio for a good cause: On occasion of a stop of the ‘Tour of Hope’, an association of prominent persons who cycle and collect money for children suffering from cancer.
Successful performance in the best sense: The Renault MotorSportspeople from Brühl presented themselves now on occasion of the benefit event in the Barbarossa city of Sinzig by the Rhine, the temporary home of Emperor Friedrich I. Barbarossa. The programme of this event included a motor sport presentation during the ‘Tour of Hope’.
The benefit tour, during which prominent personalities ride a number of bicycles for children suffering from cancer, attracted a lot of attention in Sinzig with a big spectacle – and collected a big amount of money from donations. Part of the event for the good cause was Renault MotorSport, represented by Tobias Hüttner, and the presentation of the New Renault Clio as well as additional touring car models. The goodwill bicycle tour was launched in 1983 in the city of Gießen. Since then, prominent persons from politics and economy, culture and sports pedal every year for this purpose. This year’s about 300 kilometres long bicycle tour was leading through Rhineland-Palatinate and North Rhine-Westphalia and included several stops. One of the highlights at the stop in the city of Sinzig was the parachuting accuracy landing performed by Eberhard Gienger, former high bar world champion, sportsman of the years 1974 and 1978.
“It was an interesting mixture of many different sports and the interest of the visitors in the new Cup-Clio was accordingly high”, was the summary of Tobias Hüttner. There is not a long time coming for the Renault MotorSportspeople until the next participation in a competition: The next round on the calendar of the BFGoodrich Langstreckenmeisterschaft for the New Renault Clio Dup drivers is the race on Saturday, 29th of August. And everybody is anxiously awaiting this event. The fast master baker Karl Brinker, who recently celebrated his 50th anniversary, is currently shown in the lead of the championship. The Ring-Racing driver has scored the total of 121 points in the Renault Clio classification but two hotspurs are close on his heels: Janik Olivio and Elmar Jurek are following into second position with 108 points.
