Series winner wanted!

After the six weeks summer break, the participants of the BFGoodrich Langstreckenmeisterschaft Nürburgring will finally come back to compete again at the Nordschleife on 29th of August. The 32nd RCM DMV Grenzlandrennen organised by the Rheydter Club für Motorsport represents a short sprint before the final third of the season in October.

Studying the statistics, it becomes obvious that the decision on the title in this most popular endurance racing series of Europe will be more interesting than ever this season. The reason is that there are hardly any series winners. No marching-through so far, which means that no team has so far been able to score six class wins at the six events. Half a dozen of teams last started the 6h ADAC Ruhr-Pokal-Rennen with a score of four class victories each and they all failed, except one. Only the Team Black Falcon – the Champions of 2008 – could celebrate five wins and one fourth place. The championship classification nevertheless shows the team made up of drivers Alexander Böhm (Kelberg), Christer Jöns (Ingelheim) and Sean Paul Breslin (Great Britain) into second position only. Rolf Derscheid (Much) and Michael Flehmer (Overath) have gone into the lead. The duo of the club MSC Wahlscheid has achieved four class victories and two second positions in the class of VLN series production cars up to 1800 cc cylinder capacity and thus regularly scored points. As, however, two results will not count for the final classification, it might still become tight in the end for Derscheid/Flehmer as the number of competitors in their class usually is not as high as in V4 in which the Black Flacon Team is entered.

Secretly and quietly, the Champions of the 2007 season, too, have brought themselves into position again. With good results in the class of the VLN Specials up to 2000 cc cylinder capacity with always many cars, Marco Wolf (Lohmar), Jürgen and Heinz-Otto Fritzsche (both from Hückeswagen) have already moved up into third championship place. It is true that they are still lacking 2.37 points to the leaders, but one has to see what their total score finally will be. The 32nd RCM DMV Grenzlandrennen will definitely be a very interesting race.
