Two class wins and one group victory at the 6h Race, a round of the BFGoodrich Langstreckenmeisterschaft at the Nürburgring – another successful race weekend for the Team Black Falcon.
As already at the previous race weekend, Black Falcon again had to manage two race events at one and the same weekend as successfully as possible. In addition to the 6h highlight of the BFGoodrich Langstreckenmeisterschaft at the Nürburgring, for which the ‘falcons’ had entered five cars, three Seat Leons were ready to compete in a DTM supporting race at Zandvoort. For this purpose, the team had to organise again a helicopter shuttle for the drivers of car number 1 in the endurance race, Christer Jöns and Sean-Paul Breslin.
Whilst both drivers were already sitting in the helicopter, the current endurance racing champion Alex Böhm and the ‘back-up’ in car number 1, Daniel Schwerfeld, tried to make sure that they did not have to worry about the team’s race position. The 325i-BMW again dominated class V4 despite the adverse weather conditions as crew and drivers always took the right decisions in the choice of tyres. Böhm, Breslin, Jöns and Schwerfeld thus won class V4 and collected important points for the fight in the championship and in the Junior-Trophy.
Andrij Lebed and Kai Riebetz had almost finished into fourth class position but the quick team lost their place in the last lap in a close slipstream battle. Finally they finished fifth in class V4 of production race cars, almost one second behind the “new” holders of fourth place. Sebastian Kamps, Wolfgang Ternes, Thomas Mundorf and Sean Patrick Breslin in the SP5-Z4 also achieved position five in their class.
In practice already, the team made up of Maik Rosenberg, Andrew Baughan, Ralf Willems and Heiko Hedemann competing in class SP6 had to face the difficulties of the Eifel circuit. However, during the race even an unscheduled pit stop due to technical problems could not stop the fast team in catching up constantly. The BMW rejoined the race quickly and the drivers were able to demonstrate again how much they have improved their pace up to the 6 hour Race. They set fastest lap times of the season for their race car and finally achieved a brilliant third place in their class.
The faces of drivers Bona Ventura, Frank Bierther and Daniel Schwerfeld who were this time supported by Diego Romanini were even still a little happier. The BMW with competition number 501 won its class for the third consecutive time and was the first production racing car to take the chequered flag – group victory! The 28th overall position additionally demonstrated the excellent performance of the nice team.
More than 400 kilometres away, at Zandvoort, the Team Black Flacon with drivers Christer Jöns und Thomas Marschall, too, showed a very good performance and finished on the podium. So the flight of the flacons this time again was crowned with success.
