After five races of the 2009 season, the representatives of the BFGoodrich Langstreckenmeisterschaft Nürburgring take a positive summary. “All the participants are extremely happy with the first half of the season. There were much less problems that we had expected”, explained VLN Managing Director Robert Rust and VLN Sports Director Hans-Jürgen Hilgeland unanimously. “With the financial and economical crisis and the updated Regulations for the Specials, there had been some uncertain parameters at the beginning of the year and we had not really been able to estimate the impact onto our series.”

The number of participants has slightly decreased compared to last year. Whilst in 2008, there had been the average of 184 cars at the start, this figure has gone done to the average of 166 cars participating in each of these first five events. “This corresponds to a reduction of about ten percent compared to the ‘booming year 2008’ and this is absolutely in line with our expectations, in particular as with the 6h Race and the final races of the season, we have events ahead of us which normally have a higher entry than the summer events after the 24h Race. We could not expect this positive number of starters at the beginning of the 2009 season”, said Rust.

At the end of these five championship races, the Managing Director evaluates the introduction of the new Regulations and the integration of the GT3 vehicles complying with the FIA Regulations, too, in a positive way. “Regarding quality, our entry is on the highest level ever. So the races are also more exciting than ever. This is not only our opinion but reflects the feedback in media publications and the feedback which we receive from the fans.”

The series is on a good way but there is no time for the VLN to have a rest. “Even though all signals are positive, we need to further work on the product BFGoodrich Langstreckenmeisterschaft Nürburgring”, informs Rust. “It is always possible to improve. Finally, we wish to offer popular racing sport to our fans on highest level also in the future.”
