Despite a good result in practice at the fifth round of the BFGoodrich Langstreckenmeisterschaft Nürburgring, the final result for the Frikadelli Racing Team around Sabine Schmitz, Klaus Abbelen and Dr. Edgar Althoff was not really satisfactory. The risk taken in their tyre strategy was not recompensed.
Before the 49th ADAC-Reinoldus-Rennen, the team which is based in Barweiler had worked a lot on the set-up of the race car and showed very happy with the twelfth practice result. However, they considered the race to be furthermore an extended test, than to expect a top position on the overall classification.
When at about the middle of the race the weather conditions seemed to change, Schmitz consulted all the sources available to her and decided to rejoin the race on rain tyres. This connection to the god of weather, though, quickly turned out to be not the best one. Contrary to the forecast, weather remained stable for the time being and the rain tyres had been the wrong decision. However, she tried to make the most of the situation. During her five laps on the rain tyres, Schmitz achieved quite good lap times before they were worn out. She had to proceed to another pit stop and without any chance to gain a top position in the final classification, the crew decided to consider the race henceforth as a pure test.
Shortly before the end of the race, the flood gates of heaven were finally opened. The predicted rain coming down onto the Nürburgring circuit like a monsoon caused Race Control to stop the race in advance. The Frikadelli Racing Team was just a little ahead of time … The result achieved despite of all the bad luck: Fourth in class SP7.
