Frank Totz and Peter Kreuer achieved their first victory at the fourth round of the BFGoodrich Langstreckenmeisterschaft at the Nürburgring in their tv14 Honda Civic Cup 2009and thus replaced the previous series winners Jürgen Nett and Christoph Dupré in the lead of the Cup.
After practice, Dupré/Nett were still two and a half seconds ahead of Totz/Kreuer, but right after the start of the race they entered into an exciting fight about the race lead with the Junior Team. The ladies team Schmid/ Wassertheurer/ Müllenmeister did not quite manage to catch up with the leaders due to a small gearbox problem and a lack of balance in the car after a contact with a tyre pack.
The red flag was shown in lap 13 when the race had to be suspended as Michael Schneider had lost control over his Porsche 911 GT3 at the Kallenhard section, he crashed through the track boundaries and was sliding down a slope. The driver was responsive immediately after the crash and did not complain of having any pain. The recovery, however, turned out to be quite tricky due to the difficult terrain so that the race could be resumed at 16:06hrs only. Schneider was brought to the hospital of Adenau for further medical examination. At the moment of the suspension, Dupré/ Nett were leading with an advance of four seconds ahead of Nägele/ Nägele/ Scheerbarth and Totz/ Kreuer were following behind with a gap of six seconds. Into fourth place followed the ladies in the TRW Civic. The Mathol-Civic driven by Rüdiger Schicht, Mario Meier and team manager Matthias Holle had to retire in lap six already after a collision. Worth noting: In their fastest lap time respectively, the three top teams were within one second only!
Shortly after the restart, Totz/ Kreuer managed to move into the lead. Two laps before the race finish, Dupré/ Nett slowed down, lost a wheel and went off the track. The team assumed that some shreds of paint on the wheel nut suspension could have been the reason for the wheel nuts coming off. After three hours and fifteen minutes, Totz/ Kreuer took the chequered flag as winners. The Junior Team was not that happy with their second position: “In order to make up the gap in the championship classification, we must now finally win,” said Kristian Nägele. They will have their next opportunity in two weeks time at the fifth round of the BFGoodrich Langstreckenmeisterschaft.
With a second place in their class, Koslowski/ Geulen in their race & event S2000 further extended their lead in the Honda Sport Pokal. Venn/ Hoppe had to stop the race due to a broken rear-wheel suspension in their Accord. The S2000 of Fugel/ Wächtler, Holle/ Weber and Nawotka/ Grundmann did not finish the race due to technical problems so that Dupré/ Jahn und Volin/ Höfs were able to further move up in the classification.
