After the historical 24h triple of last year, Manthey Racing again accepts the challenge of the marathon race in the Eifel to take place in one week’s time. The team from Meuspath has entered the total of four Porsche 911 GT3 for this 37th edition of the 24h Race Nürburgring to be held on 23rd and 24th of May.
Previous winners and Porsche works drivers Timo Bernhard, Marc Lieb and Romain Dumas will be completed by Manthey regular driver Marcel Tiemann to defend the title in their race car carrying number 1 as usual again this weekend. They will compete in the yellow-green and 480 HP strong RSR of Manthey-Racing which had finished on top of the podium already three times in the current season of the BFGoodrich Langstreckenmeisterschaft. In 2008, the team of Olaf Manthey has succeeded in doing the hat trick also in an RSR and won the 24 Race Nürburgring for the third time in a row. Another victory could be of special importance for Tiemann as with five victories at the 24h Race the adopted Monegasque would be able to establish a new record.
Three other Porsche works drivers will compete in the second car entered by Manthey-Racing, a 445 HP strong Porsche 911 GT3 Cup S. Emmanuel Collard, Richard Lietz and Wolf Henzler will share the cockpit of car number 2, supported by professional driver Dirk Werner.
24h winning car available as model from June
The first-time participation of the new Porsche 911 GT3-RSR in the 24h Race at the Nürburgring in summer 2007 finished with the second consecutive victory for Manthey-Racing. The Porsche experts now prepare a model true in detail, on a scale of 1:43 which will be launched shortly. “Everyone can easily estimate how much this victory means to me and the team”, says Olaf Manthey, “and we have thus decided to honour the 24h Race repeated success of 2007 with a limited model car in this special way. This model is at the same time a thank you to our fans who may now take home a little piece of the success after they had kept their fingers crossed so successfully.”
