Neither the adverse weather conditions nor the temperatures of seven degrees Celsius could do any harm to the Inter Racing team. The experienced drivers’ duo with Frank Lorenzo and Harald Jacksteis, driving a Seat Leon equipped with the ATS racing wheel, managed to secure already their second class victory in the still young season at the second round of the BFGoodrich Langstreckenmeisterschaft Nürburgring which was marked by many accidents.
After a sunny and perfect start of the season, it was this time really a big challenge for all the drivers to race on a difficult and slippery track under quite adverse weather conditions at this second round of the BFGoodrich Langstreckenmeisterschaft Nürburgring. Rain, fog and low temperatures posed a considerable problem for the drivers throughout the whole weekend. “That was really the most difficult race in the last five years”, was the summary of Inter Racing regular driver Harald Jacksties with regard to the conditions on the challenging Nordschleife. Hence, the Seat team first of all tried to be on the safe side in practice and was satisfied with position four on the grid.
As the track got dry just before the beginning of the race, almost all of the cars were at the start of the four hour race with dry weather tyres. “It then started to rain that heavily in the second lap that we had to change to wet weather tyres”, was the review given by Frank Lorenzo regarding the start situation. After the obligatory pit stop, a hard fight on the extremely demanding track then started with the Inter Racing Seat persistently defending its position in the leading group. “There was really not a second to rest today and it was extremely difficult to keep the car on the track at all”, was the summary of Jacksties just after the finish.
And Frank Lorenzo added: “Our racing strategy was to drive with one set of tyres and thus not to loose too much time at the pits.” A strategy which worked perfectly as, after the demanding race, the Inter Racing Seat crossed the finish line for the second time in the current season as class winner. “We have set the pace based on this strategy and probably that was the key to our success. We could thus also manage to keep our strong competitors at distance even when it came to the end of the race”, said Jacksties happily.
