Difficult conditions in practice already: Fog and rain. As it can often be seen, the fastest lap times were set in the very last minutes of the session. Bressan/Bühler/Wölflick in their Civic finished on pole position, followed by Dupré/Nett and Schmid/Wassertheurer/Müllenmeister, who were very happy about their best practice result so far in the Civic Cup.
All the Cup teams started the race on slick tyres but it then started to rain in the second lap already. Dupré/Nett had bad luck with their pit stop as they lost 30 seconds during their tyre change due to a tight wheel nut. In addition, they could not refuel the race car as there was too much traffic in the pits. Kreuer/Totz, the race leaders at that time, changed one lap later to the rain tyres and benefited from a clear pit so that they could refuel easily. Peter Kreuer who continued for the next turn did a great job and extended the lead ahead of Dupré/Nett to 40 seconds. By the end of the race, the track dried up again and Nett who did the final turn pushed hard to reduce to gap to Kreuer/Totz again. At the beginning of the last lap, he closed up to Totz within eyeshot and – exploiting the slipstream onto the last racing kilometers – moved ahead of the fair driving Totz on the start and finish line and won the race after four hours racing time with an advance of 0.875 seconds.
The ladies team Schmid/Wassertheurer/Müllemeister in the TRW Civic finished into third position ahead of the Mathol-Racing team with Cohausz/Schicht. The second car of Mathol-Racing with drivers Dr. Schäfer/Imholz had an accident already in the first lap. The good practice result achieved by Bressan/Bühler/Wölflick, too, was not rewarded as their Civic crashed into the guardrails after it came onto some oil on the track.
The VLN Honda Junior Team of the UAS of Cologne also had bad luck this time: The team with drivers Nägele/Nägele/Scheerbarth was slowed down in practice due to gearbox problems. The quick students succeeded in changing the gearbox between practice and the race start but had to retire after a few laps only with a damaged clutch.
Mathol-Racing was luckier with the Honda S2000: Weber/Bermes achieved a class victory in the 2 litres class. Kuhlmann/Janebzky/Heitmann finished seventh in their Civic and the “South American” Cardiff-S2000 driven by Romivez/Castro/Schmitz became eighth. Another class victory achieved Geulen/Stursberg in the ‘race-und-event’-S2000 which started in class SP4 (class of the Specials over 2 litres) with its displacement of 2.2 litres.
