After the long winter break, the BFGoodrich Langstreckenmeisterschaft started into the new season on 4th of April 2009 at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Wolf Silvester nevertheless did finally not have a pleasant memory of this first championship round.
Originally, Wolf Silvester had planned to start to the 24.359 kilometres long circuit comprised of the sprint circuit and the Nürburgring Nordschleife with his regular team mate Mario Merten (Nürburg) in class V5 with a BMW M3 E36. “Unfortunately, we got some engine problems during the test session yesterday on Friday and we couldn’t repair the damage in the available time”, informed the experienced race driver from Nuremberg the media representatives.
So they had to revert to well-tried material and started the race with the BMW 318iS in which they had scored seven victories out of nine starts in 2008 and thus just failed to gain the VLN endurance racing championship last year.
Consequently they took part in the timed practice with the car in class V2 and finished second which was an excellent starting position to hope for a class victory in the 4 hour race. But it should all come to nothing!
Wolf Silvester had a good start and moved far ahead of the field. Everything went perfect until the 7th lap and almost 74 minutes race time when he was involved into a collision with another competitor without any fault of his part and the team had to stop the race. “We must quickly forget this incident and concentrate onto the next round in 2 weeks time”, explained Wolf Silvester. “Our target still is to start with the BMW M3 in class V5 and to fight for the championship.”
