After the first round of the BFGoodrich Langstreckenmeisterschaft Nürburgring, the Sartorius Team Black Falcon can be found on the same place as it finished the season 2008: into 1st position of the classification. It is known that to defend the title in the endurance racing championship is even more difficult than to win it. In the long history of the championship this happened only four times.
Their tactics to start the first race of the 2009 season with the BMW E90 325i in which they won the championship last year instead of the new Z4 3.0si turned out to be right decision as the team with drivers Alex Böhm (champion in 2008), Christer Jöns (winner of the Junior Trophy 2008) and Sean Paul Breslin won their class V4 and went into the lead of the championship ex-aequo with Borkowsky, Weiland and Wirtz.
“Our BMW Z4 is completely new and has a brilliant potential. But we didn’t want to take a risk so early in the championship and – to be on the safe side – decided to use our car from last year’s championship”, says Alex Böhm after the race.
The drivers Laurentius Michielse and Erik Peter Weijers were able to show the great potential in the Bavarian Z4 Coupé at the first round of the BFGoodrich Langstreckenmeisterschaft Nürburgring. They made it up to 83rd overall position in this reliable new car and Michielse informs: “It is really great and much fun to race in the Z4. I think Black Falcon has taken the right decision to prepare this race car to defend the title. We have gained some valuable experience today which will definitely be of use for our number 1 later in the season.”
The ‘flagship’ of Black Falcon, the BMW M3 E92 in class SP7 driven by Dillon Koster, Bona Ventura and Diego Romanini saw the chequered flag after four hours race time into 25th position. Another strong performance at the start of the season showed the team with drivers Andrii Lebed, Kai Riebetz and Sebastian Kamps who finished into fifth class position after four hours.
The lead in the endurance racing championship for the Team Black Flacon should be the first of many pieces in the puzzle called “defending the title”. At the next round on 18th of April, the crew from Kelberg will definitely do all their best to confirm this good starting position.
