The Green Hell once again becomes a pilgrimage site for motorsport fans at the 12h Nürburgring

From 9 to 11 September 2022, the Nürburgring will feature motorsport entertainment at the highest level. At the first edition of the 12h Nürburgring, spectators will be able to enjoy a varied programme both on and off the track. Six hours of racing action on Saturday and Sunday will be complemented by the big ‘Back to the 90’s’ party in the ring°arena and a colourful programme on the ring°boulevard and in the ring°carré, with lots to discover. At the NLS season highlight, on-demand camping sites will also be open at the Nordschleife from Thursday evening to Sunday. Tickets for the 12h Nürburgring are on sale online at www.nuerburgring.de. Weekend tickets are available for 42 euros per person. Young people up to 14 years of age have free access.

“The 12h Nürburgring will be a season highlight that lives up to its name – with exhibitions for young and old, corsos on the Nordschleife, the big party on Saturday evening and, last but not least and for the first time ever at the NLS, camping at the Nordschleife,” says Michel Pathe, Managing Director of VLN VV GmbH & Co. KG. “Together with our partners, we play on the different possibilities that the Nürburgring with its modern facilities has to offer.”

Many of the NLS partners are actively involved in the 12h Nürburgring. The HARIBO Roadshow will make a stop in the ring°boulevard. The wide range of activities with goal wall, skittles, fishing game, wheel of fortune and button station is mainly aimed at the young NLS fans. On around 150 square metres, the Gold Bear will be the centre of attention and of course also be available as a popular photo motif for selfies.

BMW M and Porsche Club Nürburgring show classic cars

Another exhibitor in the ring°boulevard is BMW M GmbH. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the BMW’s sports branch, milestones from five decades will be presented. BMW 3.0 CSL, BMW M1 Procar and BMW M3 E30 will make the hearts of fans beat faster since they have celebrated unique successes especially at the Nürburgring. But also represented are the iconic road cars that bear the letter M as an unmistakable distinguishing feature. In addition to the exhibition models, there will also be a parade on the Nordschleife where the legendary cars will return to their original use.

BMW is not the only German car manufacturer with such iconic character. The Porsche brand also stands for highly emotional models – on the road and on the race track. The Porsche Club Nürburging has been a partner of the NLS for years. And so the brand club will be active again this year. More than 150 vehicles, including unique rarities and icons, will be presented in the ring°carré as well as in the ring°boulevard during the race weekend. And here, too, a parade over the Nordschleife is part of the programme.

From the grandstand into the ring°arena: ‘Back to the 90’s’

After the first part of the race, the party ‘Back to the 90’s’ in the ring°arena will rock on Saturday evening. The journey back into the era of boy bands, neon colours and wild hairstyles will be accompanied by the show acts Masterboy & Beatrix Delgado, Candela Squad, Caught in the Act, Loona and the Mütze Katze DJ team. The event starts with the waving of the chequered flag at 20:30. Tickets for ‘Back to the 90’s’ can be booked online at www.nuerburgring.de. When booking a 12h Nürburgring ticket at the same time, visitors will receive a € 5.00 discount on the party ticket in the Nürburgring online shop.

World premiere at the Nürburgring: The restart on Sunday morning

The 12h Nürburgring will come up with a sporting innovation. The race will be run in two sections of six hours each. The special feature is that on Sunday morning the cars go back on the race track in the same intervals as they were waved off at 20:30 on Saturday evening. The procedure is comparable, for example, with the pursuit race in the biathlon.

On Saturday evening after the chequered flag, the start and finish straight will become a parc fermé. No work is allowed on the cars overnight. On Sunday morning, all the cars will proceed to the pit lane, where they will line up in three rows in the order of their arrival at the finish on Saturday. The winner of part one will start first from the pit lane. The other cars will follow in the same distance as they had when they crossed the finish line on Saturday. Code-60 then applies on the entire track. As soon as all vehicles have started the race, the speed limit will be lifted and the chase will continue.

Camping at the Nordschleife for the first time at the NLS

For the first time, the on-demand camping sites around the Nordschleife will be opened at an NLS race for the 12h Nürburgring. Race fans will thus have the opportunity to set up their camps and enjoy the Green Hell, just as they do at the 24h race.
