Starting the race from second position, behind the pole setters of WH-Motorsport, Arne Hoffmeister took command already in the first lap. „Despite the rain, we decided to start the race on slicks and this was a good decision. Arne Hoffmeister was struggeling hard in the first two laps to keep the car on the track, but then the track became more and more dry and our race was actually running as scheduled“, was the summary of Dörr team manager Uwe Isert. The team had to overcome only one moment of shock. „Mid-race, at a scheduled pit stop, our fuel pump shut down for unknown reasons and we did not get enough fuel into our car. This is why we could not comply with our planned pit stop schedule and had to proceed to an additional short fuel stop,“ informed Isert.
Behind the superior Cup leaders, there was an interesting duel for second place at the Nürburgring. Throughout the complete six hour race distance, the Toyota GT86 CS-V3 with start numbers 538 (WH-Motorsport) and 532 (Pit Lane) were around the Eifel track chasing in striking distance and had a very close fight in the last laps. The two cars changed positions several times. „I had a fantastic and always fair fight with Olivier Muytjens. That was really great fun“, said Kevin Hönscheid at the finish. „In the last lap then, in the slipstream of Olivier’s car, I succeeded in carrying out the decisive overtaking manoeuvre. I think my advance at the finish line was not more than one metre.“ After 34 laps, or more than 830 kilometres racing, the two cars were separaed by just 0.298 seconds!
The leaders Hoffmeister and Wrabetz who are still unbeaten in the current season also maintained their chances to gain the titel in the VLN overall classification. Three races before the end of the season, the Dörr driver duo is in third place and only 1.01 points behind the championship leaders Dirk and Tim Groneck.
