The BMW Team Schubert remains on the road to success in the VLN endurance racing championship. The two BMW Z4 GT3 of the team from Oschersleben/ Germany finished the second round of the series into positions two and three. Into second place at the Nürburgring Nordschleife came drivers Claudia Hürtgen, Dominik Schwager and Dirk Adorf whilst their team mates Uwe Alzen and Nico Bastian finished third. The winners of the race were Porsche drivers Jochen Krumbach and Marc Lieb.
The BMW Z4 GT3 with start number 19 which made it into third place on Saturday had won the opening round two weeks ago and this time again this car was for quite a long time very close to gaining another victory. In the presence of BMW Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt, Alzen and Bastian had been in the race lead over a long distance and amongst the top group they were the only team that had already completed their third and last pit stop when, due to hail, the DMV 4 Hour Race was stopped 15 minutes before the scheduled race distance had elapsed. As a consequence, the two drivers of the BMW Team Schubert dropped back from first into third place. Joy and satisfaction about another strong performance at the legendary ‘Green Hell’, where the 40th 24 Hour Race at the Nürburgring will take place on 19th and 20th May 2012, was nevertheless predominating in the team.
“It is simply great that we made it onto the podium”, said Alzen”. “Of course, we would have preferred to win the race. We had been in the lead for quite a while and just finished out last stop when the race was stopped. That was bad luck but this may happen in racing sport. The fact that we nevertheless finished third demonstrates the quality of our whole package. A big compliment to the BMW Team Schubert and to my team mate Nico Bastian. Everybody has done a brilliant job today. I am now looking forward to the next VLN race and of course to the 24 Hours in May.”
The Team Vita4One Racing also signified that one has to count on them at the classical long distance race in the Eifel region. Marco Wittmann, Jens Klingmann, Ricardo van der Ende and Mathias Lauda had gained pole position in the morning timed practice but had to retire in the race.
