2012 Dörr Motorsport is excited about the delivery of the brand new McLaren MP4-12C GT3 after having been selected in the McLaren 12C GT3 development programme. The new super sports car was officially presented in the McLaren showroom in Klassikstadt, Frankfurt on February 25. The team is already looking forward to the start of the VLN Endurance Championship at the Nürburgring at the end of March. It will be the first race for the McLaren MP4-1 2C GT3.
British sports car manufacturer McLaren released a racing version of its new super sports car, the MP4-12C, for the GT3 class. Private racing teams were provided with a total of 25 brand new McLaren GT3 cars within the 12C GT3 development programme. The Dörr Motorsport team actually received two of the racing cars and will be the only team to compete with two McLaren MP4-12C GT3 in both the VLN championship and the ADAC 24h race at the Nürburgring in 2012.
The MP4-12C GT3 sets itself apart with the revolutionarily lightweight MonoCell, a carbon fibre chassis which is made in a single pressing and is not to be found in any other GT3 car. The MP4-12C GT3 will set new standards at the Nürburgring, considering its high aerodynamic downforce, its power and intelligent design. The official presentation in the McLaren showroom in Klassikstadt, Frankfurt on Fe bruary 25 will be the first opportunity for invited sponsors, journalists and fans to take a close look at the new super sports car.
However, it will not be long before the McLaren MP4-12C GT3 will race in the “Green Hell” of the Nürburgring: After the test and tuning session on March 24 the first race of the VLN racing series will take place on March 31. In preparation, the mandatory “Balance of Performance” test will be used to identify the exact performance characteristics of the super sports car and to adjust them to the VLN regulations, if necessary.
The next task is to perfectly adjust the setup of the McLaren MP4-12C GT3 to the Nordschleife—one of the world’s most demanding racing tracks. “Our goal is to compete at the top of the championship with the McLaren MP4-12C GT3,” says team principal Rainer Dörr. “We trust the McLaren GT development team completely and are looking forward to test the car in the Nordschleife. McLaren offers us the opportunity to use the full extent of their engineering expertise: There will be dedicated engineers working with us. This will also be very helpful to the Dörr Motorsport team.”
