Third top result of the season, fastest race lap in addition and pole position. The Peugeot RCZ Team Nokia continues dominating the action in the group of Diesel driven cars in the VLN Langstreckenmeisterschaft Nürburgring. After 13 laps, Michael Bohrer, Stéphane Caillet and Jürgen Nett won for the fourth time. Their team mates Jan Marc Finot, Eric Robert and Julien Rueflin in the second Peugeot RCZ 2.0 HDi FAP took the chequered flag with a gap of two laps behind.
The sixth of the ten championship races in the current season was interrupted once due to accidents and then finally stopped. Full points are nevertheless awarded for the championship as the minimum distance was completed.
Ten seconds faster with new suspension set-up
With 9:41.946 minutes, Stéphane Caillet set a new fastest lap of the season for the dynamic Peugeot sports coupé race car. “Even though I first had to get used to the harder set-up, this was a good step into the right direction”, said the 43 years old race driver. Bohrer and Nett, too, were very happy. “In particular the steering is much better now. This fully complies with what we had hoped for”, said the two Germans unanimously. Team manager Timo Frings was full of praise for the three French drivers in the black RCZ HDi. “For all of the three drivers, this was their first race at the Nordschleife. They have done a perfect job, finished the race without any damage on the car and straightaway scored a really good result.”
Pole-Position a moment of panic in practice
The tyre question was quickly sorted out in qualifying: The track was wet and wet tyres had to be used. The white sports coupé was temporarily shown into 26th place overall amongst the 165 cars. Just before the practice session finished, Nett also gained pole position in the class of Diesel race cars. Caillet was lucky that things didn’t turn out worse when he spun in the section Schwedenkreuz at high speed but didn’t hit anything. The black sister car finished into third position despite a turbo charger problem. Frings: “Our mechanics have done a brilliant job and changed the unit so quickly. We were thus able to continue our series of success in racing with both cars.”
