The start of the VLN Langstreckenmeisterschaft season was celebrated at the 57th ADAC Westfalenfahrt. Right at its first participation after being rebuilt, the VW Scirocco of Motorsport Team Hohaus demonstrated its great reliability and completed the four hours race distance in the Green Hell at the Nürburgring without any bigger problem.
“We are happy that we are back again at the start now with the VW Scirocco after the accident end of last year. Initially, the result was secondary for us, it was more important to complete as many kilometres as possible and to master the distance reliably what we managed today”, is the comment of a happy team manager Bernd Hohaus. Indeed, the VW Scirocco had to be completely rebuilt during winter as confirms Hohaus again. “The team never gave up and it has done an excellent job. We spent one or another night working, but it was worth. We just managed to get the car ready for the start of the season.”
During winter, the team which is based in Essen/Germany has in addition been strengthened by two drivers who will bring a lot of additional experience at the Nordschleife, Guido Wirtz (Cologne) alias „Bugs Bunny“ and Andreas Weiland (Bad Vilbel/Germany). The two new drivers were straightaway able to go the pace of regular driver David Frenzen (Essen/Germany) at the first race of the season. “Both have competed many times at the Nordschleife in many different cars and we are thus happy that they can take profit of it and thus managed to get used to the VW Scirocoo quite easily. We are hence very confident for the coming races.”
Although, in the first instance, it was most important to cover as many kilometres at the Nordschleife as possible, the crew achieved a respectable sixth position in the highly competitive class SP3T right at the first race of the new season. They must now build on this result. There is still a lot of work lying ahead of the team but they know now exactly the points they need to still improve. “Surprisingly, we had some suspension problems today although we were rather convinced of having solved this problem successfully end of last year. We will now try to eliminate these problems until the next round on 10th of April.”
