Claudia Hürtgen was able to celebrate a victory in class SP10 at the seasonal highlight of the BFGoodrich Langstreckenmeisterschaft, the 6 Hour Race which took place on 18th July 2009.
The team of Schubert Motorsport (Oschersleben) had entered a BMW M3 GT4 for the lady driver from Aachen and the team was completed by the drivers Jörg Viebahn (Engelskirchen) and Richard Göransson (Sweden).
Setting a time of 9:03,391 minutes already in the qualifying on Saturday morning, the trio achieved the so far fastest lap time for the new race car on the 24.369 kilometres long combination of the Nürburgring Nordschleife and the sprint circuit.
Claudia Hürtgen started the race in unsettled weather. “Heavy rain alternated with dry passages. We had to change tyres quite often and it was really a lottery as nobody was able to give a weather forecast for the next few minutes”, said the touring car lady driver.
After a long turn and in the lead of her class, she handed over the steering wheel of the BMW M3 GT4 with competition number 60 to her team mate Jörg Viebahn who then experienced a small electronic problem which the team however got under control very quickly. Richard Göransson from Sweden did the last stint and took the chequered flag after 36 laps as class winner.
They achieved a superior victory in class SP10 and a 15th position in the overall classification comprising 181 cars. “We could surely have done even better without the electronic problem, but we are anyhow very happy with this result”, said Hürtgen finally.
