The 6h ADAC Ruhr-Pokal-Rennen is traditionally the highlight in the BFGoodrich Langstreckenmeisterschaft Nürburgring season. One of the reasons is the race distance of six hours which stands out from the other nine races of the year. Another reason is that the organising MSC Ruhr-Blitz Bochum always comes up with some special ideas to make the race an unforgettable experience. There are actually several activities on the schedule for 2009 to complete the show on the race track.
The event 6h ADAC Ruhr-Pokal-Rennen will already start on Friday evening. Under the slogan “Typical Bochum”, the organiser invites to the biggest paddock party just beside the Race Control Tower. The MSC Ruhrblitz Bochum will bring along the world famous Dönninghaus ‘bratwurst’ and curry sausage from its home city to the Eifel Region. The party will start at 7 p.m. Beer glasses are on sale for 2 Euro each and can be refilled as often as often as requested with fresh beer ‘Früh Kölsch’. Non alcoholic beverages are of course also available. A disc jockey will arrange for evening background music.
Partnership between MSC Ruhr-Blitz and the Opel Factory Bochum
A close partnership joins the MSC Ruhr-Blitz and the Opel plant at Bochum. Since many years, the plant of the traditional German car manufacturer donates the cups for the victorious racing drivers at the 6h Race. “It is self evident for us that we stand together also in difficult times”, says Horst-Helmuth Bube, President of the MSC Ruhr-Blitz. “For this reason and together with VLN, we invite all the Opel employees from all over Germany to the Nürburgring.” Each Opel employee who is in possession of a valid plant ID card has free entrance and may be accompanied by one additional person. As an attraction not only for the Opel employees the historic vehicles of the “Oldtimer Freunde Ruhr” will take care of the revival of a part of automobile history. The lovingly restored cars may be examined in detail in the paddocks and during a corso around the Nordschleife they will literally go into the “Green Hell”.
Strong as bears: Haribo provides entertainment in the paddocks
Sweets manufacturer Haribo which is based in Bonn is getting off to a good start at the 6h ADAC Ruhr-Pokal-Rennen. Being involved in the most popular endurance racing championship of Europe as car sponsor of Uwe Alzen, the expert at the Nordschleife, the endurance racing fans of tomorrow will be in the focus at this highlight of the season. A six metres high gold-bear is hardly to be overlooked in the Nürburgring paddocks. Apart from an inflatable jumper, free samples of Haribo products will of course also be distributed amongst the small and the big lovers of sweets. As the 6h Race takes place in the middle of the summer holidays in Rhineland-Palatinate and Nordrhein-Westfalen, the Haribo and VLN activities are in particular prepared for families with children. Each adult coming to the Nürburgring and accompanied by a child younger than 14 year will receive a free ticket which gives access to the paddocks and to the open grandstands at the Grand Prix Circuit.
Madam Mayor of Bochum visits the 6h Race
The city of Bochum is proud on its motor sport clubs. Dr. Ottilie Scholz, Madam Mayor of the Ruhr area metropolis, has been the patron of the event since years. She would hereby of course not miss to come and follow the event on-site at the Nürburgring. At 12 o’clock exactly, Mrs. Scholz will symbolically start the field. When the six hours race distance have elapsed, Michael Hey, Director of Management of the Opel plant at Bochum, will show the chequered flag to the race leader.
Promotion of young talents: Donation of VLN to the DMSJ
With the VLN-Junior-Trophy and the own VLN Honda Junior-Team in co-operation with the Cologne University of Applied Sciences, the organisation of the BFGoodrich Langstreckenmeisterschaft Nürburgring has been successfully promoting young talents since many years. The VLN is now going another step forwards and donates the sum of 1000 Euro to the youth organisation of the Deutscher Motor Sport e.V., the DMSJ. VLN Managing Director Robert Rust will symbolically present the cheque to DMSJ board member Eberhard Kuhna on the starting grid.
Presentation of the new Nürburgring
The new Nürburgring which has been developed into an all-year Leisure and Business Center was opened by the Prime Minister of Rhineland-Palatinate, Kurt Beck, on 9th July with an official ceremony. The development of the Nürburgring started in November 2007 and has been the most important milestone in its history since the building of the Nordschleife in 1927 and the addition of the Grand Prix circuit in 1984. At the opening of the new Nürburgring, the visitors could enjoy the welcome°center, the ring°boulevard and the new BMW M Power grandstands. The Warsteiner Event-Center or the ring°arena provides a perfect facility to accommodate big events. The Lindener Congress & Motorsport Hotel or the Lindener Hotel Eifeldorf Grüne Hölle offer perfect accommodation facilities in the immediate vicinity of the Grand Prix Circuit. At a distance of about three kilometres from the race track, at the Offroadpark Nürburgring, the Lindener Holiday Park Nürburgring includes 100 holiday homes to accommodate families and groups.
