Return of the DTM classical race cars

Since 2009, the Touring Car Revival for historic DTM cars has been an integral part of the support race programme in the VLN endurance racing championship Nürburgring. Year by year, the owners of the DTM race cars of the earlier years come together and chase their race cars around the Nürburgring Grand Prix Circuit. Whether BMW M3 E30, Opel Omega 24V, Mercedes 190 Evo or exotic cars such as the Rover Vitesse – many of these legendary touring cars rich in history will be present again on 28th April. The demonstration runs will take place on Friday afternoon as well as on Saturday from 10:15hrs between the VLN timed practice session and the race.

The organisers have received more than 20 registrations for the Touring Car Revival, amongst them the ATS Irmscher Opel Omega 3000 24V Evo of Manfred Neumayer. In the years 1991 and 1992, there was not much to do for the drivers of Opel race cars against the amazingly strong competitors with BMW, Audi and Mercedes. The ATS Irmscher Opel Omega nevertheless had several successful races instead at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, namely in the VLN. That is now more than 20 years ago and in 2012, the circle is closing.

The Mercedes-Benz 190 will also not miss the event. Everything from the first version Evo I up to the all powerful 93 Sonax Mercedes Benz 190E Class-1-Modell of Markus Wüstefeld will be represented. A brilliant show will be provided on the track and there might be one or another fan secretly checking his stopwatch to compare the lap times of the current VLN race cars with the DTM race cars. Attention: Be aware of surprises!

The organisers of the Touring Car Revival invite to an autograph session to teak place from 13:30hrs and with participants such as Kurt Thiim, Jörg van Ommen, Peter Zakowski, Peter John and Harald Grohs and others.

The Revival is part of the event 54th ADAC ACAS H&R Cup, the third round of the 2012 VLN endurance racing championship Nürburgring. The event represents furthermore the last possibility for testing under racing conditions before the ADAC Zurich 24h Race in May.
